South Ribble Leisure are supporting Sport England’s #ThisGirlCan campaign and are providing women only swimming sessions at Bamber Bridge & Penwortham Leisure Centres for ladies aged 33 – 55 years old.
Women-only swimming sessions are all about getting in the pool and enjoying yourself.
In women-only swimming sessions there’s no need to be self-conscious or nervous as you’ll find a ready-made support network waiting for you.
Whether you’re looking to keep in shape or make friends, women-only swimming is a fun way to do both.
Friendly Support
A member of our staff will be on hand at each sessions to offer advice and support before, during and after your session. We’re installing new hairdryers and you’ll even receive a complimentary pair of flip flops to wear between the pool and the changing areas. If you want to leave some clothes or a robe on poolside, we will even provide baskets and hooks to keep them dry and secure.

What a fantastic initiative!! This is a great way to add a cardiovascular session to your exercise routine. Swimming is a brilliant all-round exercise. It benefits the body and the mind and what’s more it’s fun!
It’s good for your health, good for fitness and can help you lose weight. It will be a fantastic supplement to your Pilates classes. Why not give it a try?
33 – 55, what about those outside this age range. I met with my sister and niece today and none of us were eligible for these sessions, ages being 31, 56 and 60, this is discrimination and ageism.
Hello Gloria, you are quite right to question this. I have contacted South Ribble Leisure and they have explained that Sport England have set these age parameters for the campaign, however, any woman over the age of 16 years is welcome to their swimming sessions.
Thank you for getting in touch. I hope you enjoy your swimming session – it is a great cardio vascular exercise and will complement your Pilates classes.
